AI is coming for your mediocrity

There's a lot of fear and anxiety around AI taking over jobs and it seems no one is truly safe -- whether you are a cab driver, programmer, artist, or even a radiologist. But I think AI will only come for our mediocrity. If a model is trained on the collective knowledge of humanity, we might see something analogous to the central limit theorem: the resulting “general” AI will likely only be as good as the average human.

We can look back at some technological revolutions of the past to see similar outcomes. From the industrial revolution to the robotic automation, it was largely the mediocre jobs that got replaced. Imagine a mediocre caveman husband who did nothing but provide warmth to his family, you can bet that he lost his job the moment fire was invented.

So, instead of worrying about AI, maybe we should focus on solving our own mediocrity.
